Features
Yet another addition to the Double Bell range of replicas that are packed with as many great features as possible while keeping the cost at the more affordable price point. The Double Bell XM177 is based upon the first widely issued carbine length variant of the Colt M16, it’s the Grandfather of the M4A1 Rifle still in service globally today. First seeing action in the jungles of Vietnam, this carbine features the more retro aesthetics of that era, including a fixed A1 style carry handle with integrated iron sights adjustable for windage, the triangular front sight, simple buttstock design, A1 pistol grip without the finger stump, the earlier slab sided upper receiver without a forward assist as seen on rifles of the time, the shorty 20 round styled magazine (though don’t worry, this still holds 150 BBs) and the XM177’s famous moderator/flash hider device that was interestingly enough used to try to change the sound of the rifle from that of the M16 more closely to an AK47, so that Special Forces squads were less likely to give away their positions behind enemy lines. Though most notably known for the ‘Nam era; variations of the XM or CAR15 (Carbine AR15) as they are commonly referred to, have seen use in various forms throughout pop culture and military service with special forces groups since, making this offering from Double Bell a great option for reenactors, 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s US or SAS themed loadouts, or anyone with an appreciation for the retro – fixed carry handle rifles aesthetics. – Note, the handguards used are not the super skinny ones as found on real CAR15s, but the usual M4 profile two part handguards. However unlike some other brands, Double Bell have used the realistic toothed AR barrel nut and delta ring, meaning aftermarket and “real steel” skinny handguards will fit, also being rear wired, you wont need to worry about battery storage space in the smaller handguards.
The build quality and materials used on the XM177 are fantastic. Predominantly a solid metal build where the real one is metal and the polymer parts are very tough and robust, very impressed with the feel of it over all. It sports some premium features including a dummy bolt cover hold open and release with the bolt catch, for easier hop adjustments, a rotary style hop up chamber, and a tight bore barrel that reaches almost the length of the flash hider for improved accuracy and range. Aside from that it is based on a V2 gearbox, so highly upgradeable too.
